The Essence of PRAYER!

2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Today we find ourselves being challenged in many ways and pulled in many directions. The temptation is just to take off running, blindly without spiritual direction. Hoping that we have enough wisdom, knowledge, and understanding under out belt to proceed successfully. But, every wise man or woman in life before taking on any task large or small STOPS TO PRAY.

In our focus verse we have the opportunity to learn many things:
1. To call on the name of the Lord you must know him (“If my people”)! How can you call someone you do not know? What type of help would you expect to get from someone you are only acquainted with? If you have not given your life to Christ, the prayer that God hears from a sinner is a prayer of repentance. Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Those that know Christ but have lost faith or done that which is unworthy of a child of God can cry out like Peter when he started to sink “Lord Help Me.”

2. We must reposition ourselves (“humble themselves”)! What does this mean? We must move from the posture of God needs to give me what I deserve to not my will, but “thy will be done.” This is a position of humility where we realize who God is and who we are in relationship to God (creator vs. created).

3. To turn to his word (“seek my face”). Psalm 119:104 Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. I have sworn, and I will perform it, that I will keep thy righteous judgments. How will we know what, when, or how to pray if we don’t know God’s words? God’s word teaches us how to pray so that we might have an abundant life.

4. To turn from our wick ways simply means to stop doing what we know is wrong that causes hard to life mentally, spiritually, and physically. And If you feel you can’t stop, pray to God with a truthful heart. Psalm 51:6 Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.
Prayer- Our Father, we are so thankful we can call on your holy name anytime, anyplace, and for any reason. We humble ourselves completely realizing you are the creator of every good and perfect thing. Search our hearts, convicts us of any unconfessed sins. If we have not given our lives to you today, we confess that we are sinners and you sent your only son, Jesus, to save us from our sins. We believed that Jesus died for our sins on old rugged cross, but our the third day he got up from the grave with all power, and now sits on the right hand of God the Father waiting to come back for us one day! We believe through your word that you have left us a Comforter that will help us overcome all the obstacles of this world. In the Name of the Father, Son and Blessed Holy Ghost. Amen.
