The way to blessings!
Psalm 1
1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. 4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. 5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
In the above text, which comes from the first Book of Psalms, we find a list of things we should not do if we want to be blessed. It is important that we: (1)not walk with the ungodly- can you hang with rotten apples and not become one yourself? (2)not stand with sinners- if my beliefs are in line with those opposing God’s word then I’m standing with sinners, and (3)not sit with the scornful- finding confront with people who are full of resentment and bitterness.
However, the thing we must do according to Psalms 1 to be blessed is to meditate on the law (the word of God) day and night. We do this by studying the word of God, praying that the Holy Spirit will open our hearts to understand the word of God, and stepping-out by faith on the promises of God’s word. The blessing that comes to us by meditating on God’s word day and night is we shall not be moved, we will be fruitful, and prosperous.
Dear God,
Thank you for pointing the way to your blessings. Help us each day to mediate on your word. Forgive us for not taking the necessary time to intimately know you. Create in us a renew spirit that will lead us to a greater desire for knowledge and understanding of your blessed word. AMEN!
